New Gemini awards for research

The launch of these 2 new Award categories was met with overwhelming enthusiasm by the Canadian documentary community. "Canada's much vaunted reputation for non-fiction documentaries would be meager if not for the efforts of Canada's editorial and visual researchers" reported Kevin McMahon, award winning director, Primitive Entertainment.

"Canada's researchers are the unsung heroes quietly toiling away finding key information, developing angles and fleshing out storylines." stated Norm Bolen, President and CEO of the Canadian Film and Television Producers Association   (www.cftpa.ca )

"They find the best people to interview, the right questions to ask them, the best archival footage, and the best shooting locations. And they are experts at clearing all the necessary material needed in productions".

"Without thoughtful and accurate research, a documentary would fail to provide the engaging , captivating and educational experience that has become so valued to followers and fans of non-fiction filmmaking" confirmed Chris Macdonald, Executive Director of Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival   (www.hotdocs.ca)

Deadlines are fast approaching, so producers are urged to act quickly and submit entries directly to Katie Lafferty, ACCT's Gemini Awards Manager. katie@academy.ca Tel. 416-366-2227 ext 230.
